Current Role
As an application specialist with Intersystems I am currently working on an electronic patient record system which is being implemented in partnership with the Scottish NHS. My role as an application specialist is to act as an “expert” product resource for customers and expected to communicate and prioritise customer requirements to other areas of the business. My role involves contributing to the successful and timely deployment of the Intersystems TrakCare product through application knowledge and product delivery services in the functional areas of product implementation, requirements scoping, field design documentation and change request testing. This role out, once completed, will be the largest of its kind in the world.
A prerequisite of the role of the application specialist is awareness of the Data Protection Act. As a result of my interest in this area I assisted the resumption of regular DPA training within the UK. I am now a contributor to the information security section of the companies intranet.
Previous Roles
My previous roles within the IT/Web development sector provided me with a strong IT skill set and the ability to manage a pan-European website project and a team of web developers. During this period I was regularly involved with roles such as scoping and estimating costs and quotes. Much of my work whilst managing the pan-European website required me to be client facing including capturing their needs and requirements, liaising with the sales department when new requirements were highlighted by the clients and managing change efficiently and effectively within budget and to meet and exceed expectations.
I believe that as a nurse working for the Adult Intensive Care unit the ability to work within set goals and to targets was a skill which was paramount every day. To be able to liaise with people from different skill backgrounds to achieve targets was a prerequisite to the job. Effective communication allowing all members of the interdisciplinary teams to be kept up to date was essential. I am equally comfortable working independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a team. I have always been able to establish and maintain excellent relationships with clients and coworkers at all levels.
Published Paper
Whilst working as a nurse I collaborated with a group of colleagues, who included a former manager, mentor and City University lecturer, to produce a paper which was eventually published in the British Journal of Nursing.

Training
I decided that in view of the fact that the length of time spent nursing and the project management training I had previously received was in house, it would be in my best interests to attend a PRINCE 2 Practitioner course. I found it quite an intensive course that enabled me to build upon those skills I had already gained from previous experiences.
